Natural Features of Kemihaara Wilderness Area

There are many natural features in Kemihaara Wilderness Area, which are considered typical of Finland's wilderness areas. There are soggy mires and meandering rivers cocooned in the middle of forests. There are sweeping pine-dominated backwoods and spruce covered ravines. There are also rocky fells and even areas where forest fires have burnt forests.

An open mire during autumn, a coniferous-dominated forest can be seen behind the mire. The leaves of the shrub in the foreground are glowing in red autumn colours and there are yellow birch leaves on the ground.

Scree-covered rolling hills, pine trees are growing sparsely between the stones.
Kemihaara Wilderness Area together with Urho Kekkonen National Park and Vintilänkaira old-growth forest area, form a versatile combination of old-growth forests, pine mires, aapa bogs, fells and head waters.
