Walking and Hiking
The trails of Sanginjoki nature reserve are suitable for day trips or for overnight hiking. The trails are easy to travel, there are no steep slopes or rough terrain. In places the trail can be rocky and tree roots can stick out from the trail. Multiple camping sites along the trails offer places to rest during a hiking trip.
Berry and mushroom picking
The forests and mires in Sanginjoki nature reserve are a great place to pick berries and mushrooms. Bilberry and lingonberry bounty can be plentiful in good years.
Bird-watching
In the nature reserve you can sight many birds that favour old forests, such as Siberian jay (Perisoreus infaustus), redflanked bluetail (Tarsiger cyanurus), three-toed woodpecker (Picoided tridactylus), capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) and the Eurasian pygmy owl (Glaucidium passerinum). Asmonkorpi old forest area, Kalimeenkierros trail and Korpilammenkierros trail are great places to search for birds that live in forest habitats. Korpilampi offers the best place to observe water fowls such as Eurasian teal (Anas crecca), goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) and mallard (Anas platyrhynchos).
Other Activities
- Cultural history sights: Along the Kalimeenkierros trail, in Polvikangas area there are old trapping pits that were used for hunting elk and forest reindeer.
- Fishing: Sanginjoki riverside is a popular place for fishing, where many pools and rapids form a variable river habitat. Multiple camping sites are situated along the Sanginjoki riverside.
- Skiing and snowshoeing: Eventhough there are no official skiing or snowshoeing trails, Everyman's rights allow trekkers to walk their own paths during the winter
