Uittipiekka Open Wilderness Hut

The wilderness hut is situated on the north side of Uittipiekka Fell, at the head waters of River Sorvorttajoki. Please get acquainted with the instructions and rules of Kemihaara Wilderness area, where the hut is located in.
The hut is accessible only by foot or by skiing. Use of motor vehicles in the area is prohibited.
There are no marked trails to reach the hut.
The area has limited or no mobile phone network coverage. Be prepared that a mobile phone can not be used.
Always have a paper map and a compass with you.

Facilities
A stove, a gas cooker and a sauna. The sauna can be used by the wilderness hut and reservable hut guests who have paid the sauna fee.
Notices
The sauna fee is 10 € / adult, 5 € / child (under 7 years) or for a member of a group (a group min. 10 persons). You can pay the sauna fee in Eräluvat webstore (eraluvat.fi).
Pets are permitted in the hut, but only in case that other visitors agree with it. There is also a reservable wilderness hut in the same building/for 4 persons.
How to Get There
Uittipiekka hut is located outside marked trails, you need to have orienteering skills to reach it.
The shortest way to Uittipiekka in summer time is via Lokka. Drive towards Pihtijoki from Lokka, turn right at Mukkajoenrova and drive until Taltukkaselkä. The distance to the hut from this point is a little over 6 km.
Another way to the hut goes via Savukoski. Turn left at Ruuvaoja, drive to the north side of Nivatunturi towards Marjavaara and further to the side of Sorvortantunturi fell. The distance to the hut from this point is a little over 6 km.
The roads are forest roads and can be in poor condition.
You can reach Uittipiekka in winter time by skiing from Kemihaara direction, where the closest maintained road is. Depending on the route you choose, the distance from Kemihaara to the hut is about 23 km, outside marked trails.
Waste Management
There are bins for mixed waste at the hut, but hikers are asked to bring their own waste out of the area. Read more about visitor guidelines and Outdoor Etiquette.
